Bible Study

The past few weeks I have been doing a bible study with some felow homeschoolers. I am going to start posting some things that I have been learning. These are thingsthat are disprooving lies that people may believe that cause stress and diseases.

This is about the lie "I do not ift in.".

As a princess of the King, you should make your King look good. We were pit on this earth to make God look good, not fit in. Be followers of Christ, not people. Following your mentor or a great leader is great, but remember that God is higher than any other.

Romans 12:4-5,

You might not fit in everywhere, but sometimes it is a good thing. You may think that you want to fit in in a certain crowd, but God sometimes prevents you from fitting in the wrong crowd. If you don't fit in, try to remember that God had a reason for you not to "fit in". Age also really doesn't matter. When Jesus was 12 years old, he was sitting in the temple with the elders of the Church.

Do you bully other people? Maybe just a little? Do you make people feel like they don't fit in? Either intentionally or unintentionally?

In the general world, if there is something that is vey popular, it may not be good dor you. It may be unhealthy, it may be innapropiate, or is may be harmful to you. Not everything is that way, but most of the popular things in our corrupted and secular culture, aren't good for us.

Keeping CHRIST in CHRISTmas

!!!

I am choosing to keep CHRIST in CHRISTmas.  Why?  Because if there was no Christ, there would be no Christmas.  Christ is the reason for the season.  Who's with me?

Just A Few Goals . . .

Here are some of my goals that I have chosen for my life.  Some of these goal, I have already accomplished, but I would like to share it with my readers. I have 5 different categories; Faith, Family, Charity, Art, and Music.  For each category, I have 5 or 6 goals, but I am only listing 1 goal for now.  I can post a list of my other goals later.

Faith:
Bring Someone to Christ

 Family:
Get Married, and NEVER get Divorced

Charity:
Participate in Walk for Life

Art:
Own an Art Museum for Kids

Music:
Play Flight of the Bumblebee

I also have a reflection of my goals and some questions that I will answer about my goals that I have listed above.

Q. What have you learned about creating goals as you have worked on the goals lessons?
A. I have learned better ways about creating goals.  I have found that it is easier for me to complete my goals when I write them down.

Q. What have you learned about yourself and the goals you have as you have worked on the goals lessons?
A. I have learned that I am good about keeping my word, and accomplishing my goals that I set.

Q. Where have you already made the most improvement on the topic of goals and achieving them?
A. I have learned that when I didn't write down my goals, the goals that I had the most problems completing was the music category.  I have a busy schedule and I sometimes forget what music goals I have.  When I wrote them down, I was remembered them and accomplished them.  I have not been able to play Flight of the Bumblebee yet I have other musical goals that I have accomplished.

Maybe using some of the techniques that I have used will help you in completing your goals.  Be sure to comment and share some of the goals that your have accomplished!

Thanks,
Beth

How to Make Homemade (from scratch) Flour Tortillas

Here is a cool recipe that I learned from a friend of mine.  It is Homemade Flour Tortillas.  It is really good and easy to make!  I have only made it twice, so I am not a "pro" yet, but I'll get there sooner or later.

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups all purpose flour (corn, almond, or any other flour of you choice will work also)
  • 2/3 cup warm water
  • 1/4 tablespoons oil (any kind)

Directions:
  1. Mix 1/4 tbs oil and 2/3 c warm water in a glass cup.  Heat in microwave on medium for 1 minute. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, measure out 2 c of flour.  Add 1/2 tsp salt.
  3. Get a clean cookie sheet out.  Take a damp rag or paper towel and wipe down cookie sheet.
  4. Take a small towel (it needs to cover the whole cookie sheet) and get it damp.  Lay it on top of the cookie sheet.
  5. Pour the water and oil mixture into the bowl with the salt and flour.
  6. With clean hands, knead together the ingredients.  make sure that all of the ingredients are incorporated together.  (you wouldn't want a tortilla to be too salty or too oily!)
  7. Take the dough and make medium sized balls. (look below)
  8. Put the balls on the cookie sheet.  Cover with the damp towels.
  9. Let sit for 30 min.  You want to keep the balls damp.
  10. Heat griddle at 350 degrees F.
  11. Flatten the balls and roll the out so they are round and smooth.
  12. Put them on the griddle and flip.  Make sure that they are crisp and they are not burnt.  It is okay that they bubble and have brown dots on them.

The History of Mothers Day

    Mother’s Day was originally a group that was made up of widowed women.  The second Sunday of each month they met together and had a group meeting.  They talked about how they loved their husband and how much they miss him.  They would also help encourage each other through their struggles.  They would come up with idea’s to help them get rid of the idea that their husband was dead.

    In 1904, one of the mothers started talking about how they never talk about their children and how much their children help them so much.  Then, she decided to bring her three children to the group meeting.  When she did, they helped clean and they cooked meals to share with everyone.  Then another widowed parent brought her 6 children.  Then the rest of the widowed parents brought their children.  There was not enough room for everyone or for all of the food, so the took turns bringing their children and cooking meals for everyone.

    In 1924, the second Sunday of each month became, Widowed Mother’s Day.  Then when everyone started getting over the lost of their husbands, they started coming once a year.  They met on the second Sunday of may.  Most of those parents got married, so they were not widows anymore.  So they decided to call the second Sunday of May, Mother’s Day, instead of Widowed Mother’s Day.

Speak Pig Greek!

     Many years ago, kids made up a language for fun, called Pig Latin.  So, also for fun, we made up pig Greek, which use sounds of real Greek.
      Learning Pig Greek takes practice to start, but once you get a feel for how the words are formed, you'll be exercising your brain and chatting away.  Pig Greek uses four sounds (chosen becuase a lot of real Greek words have these in them): Iklees, Yiklees, os and kro.
     If a group of kids learn together, you could have private conversations in Pig Greek! And, if you really get into it, see if you can find someone to help you begin to learn real Greek, and become a Greek-speaker!
 Iklees:  Use for "I''
 Yiklees:  Use for "you''
     For words beginning with consonants, move the consonants to the end, and add os.  For example, "I stay'' would be "Iklees ay-stos.''  "You go'' would be "Yiklees oh-gos.''
     For words starting with vowels, add kro before the word.  For example, the words am, are, and is would be kro-am, kro-are, and kro-is.

Ahnt-wos oo-tos eak-spos ig-pos eek-gros?
Icklees kro-am appy-hos.
Icklees ike-los o-tos eak-spos ig-pos eek-gros!

How to Build a Trojan Horse

Everyone can use a Trojan horse, of course.  Got something you'd like to hide or store away, out of view?  Build a table top version for your room.  Or, build a large one for out door play! (Trojan horses make good pinatas, too.)

HORSE ON A WAGON:

  You Will Need:
* Wagon
* Carton that fits inside the wagon
* Cardboard cut in the shape of a horses head, lega, and tail (make sure the head and tail are extra long)
* Paint
* Tape
* Creativity

An old wagon is a great start for building a Trojan horse.  First, paint the carton and the horse head, legs, and tail.  Cut slits in the carton, and attach the neck and tail to the inside with strong tape.  Attach the legs to the outside of the wagon.  Glue or staple a shoe box inside inside to conceal toy soldiers. Cut a small door in the side of the horse, so that the soldiers can exit.  They can also use a cardboard ladder to get down.

TABLE TOP HORSE:

  You Will Need:
* Card board box roughly 6 in. by 8 in.
* Scissors
* 3 toilet-paper tubes
* Tape
* Brass paper fastener
* Glue

Cut a curve into the top of the box on two sides for the body of the horse.  Form cardboard into a horse's head, with ears attached, and tape it into a toilet-paper tube neck.  Attach the  neck to the body with tape. (Cut a curve in the front of the box where the neck will go.)  Tape on a back and tail.  cut a door flap into one side, and use a brass paper fastener as a "door-knob."  Glue on toilet-paper-tube wheels.  Your horse can be a good place to hide base ball cards or some other small treasure.

Make a Hamster Labyrinth

 If you (or a friend) have a mouse, gerbil, hamster, or a rat, you can make a pets labyrinth.
     Attach rectangles of cardboard to make walls inside a carton.  Figure out a secret passageway - and create plenty of dead ends!  Make a path the ends with a Greek hamster treat.  How about a grape?  Or, start you pet  on a simple labyrinth, and gradually, over several days, make it more difficult.  Does your pet still find the reward?

     Don't feel like training a pet?  Draw a complicated labyrinth on paper or with the drawing tool on a computer to trade with a friend.  Mark the places to start and to end.  Then, see if your friend can solve the maze.

Bethany

The Longest word in the world

Have you been dying to figure out the longest word in the world?  Well you have found it because here it is:

pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis

I did not make this word up.  Her is the definition of this strange, but long, word:

pneu⋅mo⋅no⋅ul⋅tra⋅mi⋅cro⋅scop⋅ic⋅sil⋅i⋅co⋅ vol⋅ca⋅no⋅co⋅ni⋅o⋅sis

[noo-muh-noh-uhl-truh-mahy-kruh-skop-ik-sil-i-koh-vol-key-noh-koh-nee-oh-sis, nyoo-]

–noun an obscure term ostensibly referring to a lung disease caused by silica dust, sometimes cited as one of the longest words in the English language.

It is hard to put this word in a sentence but I have figured out a good sentence for this word:

The doctor said that the deasease I have is called pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis.  It is a very rare lung deasease that only about 5 people in the whole world have.
