How to Make Homemade (from scratch) Flour Tortillas

Here is a cool recipe that I learned from a friend of mine.  It is Homemade Flour Tortillas.  It is really good and easy to make!  I have only made it twice, so I am not a "pro" yet, but I'll get there sooner or later.

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups all purpose flour (corn, almond, or any other flour of you choice will work also)
  • 2/3 cup warm water
  • 1/4 tablespoons oil (any kind)

Directions:
  1. Mix 1/4 tbs oil and 2/3 c warm water in a glass cup.  Heat in microwave on medium for 1 minute. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, measure out 2 c of flour.  Add 1/2 tsp salt.
  3. Get a clean cookie sheet out.  Take a damp rag or paper towel and wipe down cookie sheet.
  4. Take a small towel (it needs to cover the whole cookie sheet) and get it damp.  Lay it on top of the cookie sheet.
  5. Pour the water and oil mixture into the bowl with the salt and flour.
  6. With clean hands, knead together the ingredients.  make sure that all of the ingredients are incorporated together.  (you wouldn't want a tortilla to be too salty or too oily!)
  7. Take the dough and make medium sized balls. (look below)
  8. Put the balls on the cookie sheet.  Cover with the damp towels.
  9. Let sit for 30 min.  You want to keep the balls damp.
  10. Heat griddle at 350 degrees F.
  11. Flatten the balls and roll the out so they are round and smooth.
  12. Put them on the griddle and flip.  Make sure that they are crisp and they are not burnt.  It is okay that they bubble and have brown dots on them.
